Intensive Outpatient Programme

Who is it for:

The intensive outpatient programme has been designed for individuals who are suffering from addictive disorders, but financial stresses, legal issues, work obligations and family responsibilities make it impossible for them to take part in a 4-week outpatient rehabilitation programme.

Houghton House’s intensive outpatient programme, First Step, is located in Ferndale Randburg.

5 evenings per week for a period of 6 weeks

Outpatient Programme, Intensive Outpatient Programme, Best Addiction Rehabilitation in South AfricaFirst Step is designed to give individuals unable to take time off, the best possible chance of a successful recovery while they continue with their everyday lives.
We employ life skills education to promote and maintain recovery. Our goal is to help each individual maintain lasting recovery and become a productive member of society.

The programme mainly focuses on behavioural and lifestyle changes. We empower alcoholics and drug addicts with the necessary tools to manage their addictive behaviour patterns and attitude towards life.

The outpatient treatment programme is based on the same principles as the residential programme. Essential aspects and components of the residential programme have been selected and combined to provide a condensed version for individuals who seek treatment but cannot book into a primary care facility.

Lectures and group sessions are attended in the evening, and thus do not impinge on the client’s daily responsibilities.

The programme includes:

  • Individual therapy sessions
  • Group therapy sessions
  • Assistance with reintegration
  • Family workshops and lectures
  • Educational groups

Our staff members are highly qualified and proficient, treating clients with the dignity, care and empathy that they deserve to help them to re-establish a more positive self-image that is fundamental to overcoming their problem.

Our extended care programme is staffed by a range of professionals, including certified addiction counsellors, consulting psychologists and psychiatrists.
