Over a Quarter of a Century of Service
Twenty-six years ago, Houghton House Addiction and Mental Health Treatment Centres opened and despite incredibly humble beginnings as a Halfway House, started by Alex Hamlyn, it has grown under Alex and Dan Wolf’s guidance to be one of the most successful, renowned, professional, medically sophisticated group of drug and alcohol addiction treatments centres in South Africa.
When Houghton House first opened its doors, in 1995 it started with a mere three patients, it has since expanded to allow up to inhouse 80 patients spread throughout the primary, secondary, and tertiary drug addiction treatment centres.
When outpatient groups are included, the total number of people in treatment at one time is often in excess of 100.
Various Addiction Treatments Programmes
Whether patients require a dynamic but intensive Primary Inpatient Residential Programme, a tailor-made Extended Inpatient Care Programme, the delicate but progressive First Step Outpatient Programme, the stability of the Continuing Care Programme for addicts in recovery, the dedicated After Care and Relapse Prevention Tertiary Care Programme or family support, know that Houghton House has you and your loved ones covered.
Thank you to each and every patient, team member and friend of Houghton House.

Changing Peoples Lives.
To sum up we operate on the belief that alcoholism/addiction are a recognised and diagnosable disease. That is to say, it is not a moral failing. Consequently, we strive to create an environment where our patients feel respected and most importantly as a result their dignity can be restored.
