Sommerville Place
Tertiary care is intended for individuals who have completed a residential treatment programme and are willing to commit to long-term structured living.
Recovery from addiction and alcoholism is a life-long process which requires ongoing commitment. Once a recovering addict / alcoholic moves out of a structured environment, the chance of a relapse increases. The longer people stay within controlled surroundings; they have a higher chance of successfully breaking their habit and living a normal healthy lifestyle.
Communal living is a key for successful tertiary care. Participants in Houghton House’s tertiary care programme are housed at Sommerville Place in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. Both men and women are welcome and residents are expected to assist with the overall running of the house.
The house is closed during the day from Monday to Friday, when residents are at work. During this stage of their recovery they usually are fully re-integrated into working society.
Weekly meetings are held, and residents are required to join the 12-step programmes and groups.
Facilities at Sommerville Place include:
- Beautiful garden;
- On-site secure parking;
- Shared rooms; and
- Television lounge with satellite TV
