At Houghton House we don’t believe that addiction is only determined by an individual’s willpower or their strength of character. Patients need a series of intensive and continuous treatment which is an essential component to overcome alcoholism and drug addiction.

Houghton House Primary Care is the first port of call for people suffering with an addiction. Our centre provides a safe environment for detoxification and we deal with many aspects of addiction within a nurturing and peaceful environment. After an individual has completed the 28 or 42-day residential program they have two weeks of aftercare, during which they attend sessions as a day patient. A medical examination is executed on admission and an individual may undergo a detox process if it is prescribed by our medical experts. Every plan is drawn up to specifically fit an individual’s needs. This plan is solely based on an individual’s psycho-social assessments. Each individual plays a significant role in the therapeutic community as they interact with their peers who have similar battles with their addictions. As a result they offer a support structure to one another which is strong and helpful along the road to recovery. No one has to face it alone. Our staff compromises of a range of medical experts which include:

These professionals ensure all patients receive individual care and compassion when they are with us.

Therapeutic models used include:

  • motivational interviewing

  • A 12-step program

These models are delivered in a group therapy session, one-on-one counseling and educational workshops to assist with the process of full recovery.

Individuals are treated with a holistic approach. A number of factors are covered in the program such as nutrition, exercise, therapeutic duties, leisure and sporting activities.
