Because addiction affects all areas of a person’s life, recovering addicts and alcoholics need to establish and maintain a completely new lifestyle once the detoxification phase of their recovery (or primary care) has been seen through.
Pathways secondary care facility offers help establishing a new lifestyle, focusing on building self-awareness and creating a deeper sense of responsibility.
The 13-week resident treatment programme provides guidance on establishing lifestyle patterns that are conducive to sustained recovery. Emphasis is placed on building self-confidence and the of self-worth needed to lead a healthy and independent life.
The treatment style is less structured and intensive than in primary care. Patients are encouraged to interact with their communities, providing a gradual transition from institutional living to everyday life.
The programme comprises:
- Daily group therapy sessions;
- Individual counselling;
- Educational workshops;
- Exercise;
- Family workshops;
- Re-integration activities; and
- Aftercare.
Participating in sport and social activities is also encouraged.
Staff members fully qualified and highly proficient, and help to create an atmosphere of mutual understanding and respect.
Situated in Johannesburg, South Africa, the Pathways facility includes:
- Shared bedrooms;
- Swimming pool;
- Television lounge (with satellite TV); and
- On-site, secure parking.
